World book day and Federation Science Day

On Thursday 8th March, Catfield held their world book day celebrations due to the deluge of snow the previous week closing the school.

Panthers and Cheetahs class got to take part in book related activities in the morning. They got to:
-listened to Mrs Pell read Make Up Mess, by Canadian author, Robert Munsch
-bookmark making competition: winners:  Sam, Ethan E., William, Jade and Gracie
-Where's Wally school hunt:  Winner Bethany
-Mad Libs story writing game with partners- see Cheetahs blog for the winners.
-Book Quiz:  Emma/Alice, Kayleigh/Bethany & Mellissa/Lily winners
-Reading Stars Challenge: where everyone had to collect stars by completing some fun and challenging reading tasks!

They laughed through trying to read a paragraph backwards, learned some new vocabulary from the dictionary, shared some of their best writing with their peers, searched for interesting facts in non-fiction books, searched for tasty recipes and investigated some opportunities to try new books!

I was impressed by how enthusiastic the children were about sharing their books and how they enjoyed reading.

On Thursday (15th March) Panthers and the whole of Catfield joined in our annual Federation Science Day at Sutton.

This year the children got to take part in a range of activities that stretched their scientific skills. They also got to see a host of animals that live in the rain forest.

Some children were even lucky enough to hold some of these animals.

I was really impressed with the knowledge of animals that our children showed and the questions that they asked Walter- the expert.

Below are some photos of the days activities.
